1964 Chevelle El Camino
Mike Shields
Specifications: 383 small block, 4-speed, Ember Red paint
Mike got this El Camino thirty years ago. At one time, the El Camino had belonged to his uncle.
After waiting for twenty-four years, Mike began the restoration, which was completed in 2012. But cars are really never done; Mike has just re-worked the exhaust. He wanted some mufflers that didn't resonate inside the cabin. The new exhaust includes stock exhaust manifolds with an X-pipe and 2-1/2" inlet Cadillac mufflers.
Mike built a "torquey" 383 cubic inch small block for his truck with a Thumper Cam and Double Hump Heads. An Edelbrock Intake topped by a Qudrajet carburetor delivers the fuel to make it go. Mike uses a four-speed Muncie transmission and a twelve bolt rear end with 3:73 gears to make it all roll down the road. Power steering, power disc brakes with front and rear stabilizer bars make it handle very well.
